  My husband was referred to Dr. Staires by his neurologist. Hubby had back surgery and just isn't healing like he should. He is in intense pain that doesn't seem to subside. He saw Dr. Staires several months after his back surgery (diskectomy and spinal fusion with cage). Upon seeing this doctor my husband was treated as if he was someone off the street that was just drug seeking. When the doctor asked my husband if he smoked marijuana, of course my husband said no. The doctor looked at him like he was lying and said, "of course you do, most of my patients do!" My husband was then offended because he has never touched illicit drugs and before his back injury wouldn't even touch an aspirin! We thought that maybe after seeing him a few times more the attitude would change, but it didn't. He is very rude, discourteous and not compassionate in any fashion! When my husband explained that we have children and that he needs to be "present" for them to doctor told him that didn't matter. Throughout each of the appointments the doctor was consistently rude and didn't want to hear anything that my husband had to say about his symptoms. Heaven forbid my husband deflect the questions to me (since I am more observant)! I work in the medical field and am familiar with diseases, meds, and symptoms. When I spoke to the doctor using medical terms he just dismissed me and told me that "I was not a doctor." I said, "no I am not, but I know my husband!" If you want to be treated like you are a drug user off the street and have someone be consistently rude to you and disrespectful -- go to this doctor. Otherwise, do some research and find someone else. One would think that when a doctor chooses the pain management field they would understand that their patients are in intense pain and need some compassion, some hope that they will eventually feel better. But I guess this one missed that class!
